Metro Detroit weather: Freezing rain, chance of snow Monday night

Freezing rain advistory, winter weather advisory in effect

DETROIT – A freezing rain advisory remains in effect for Metro Detroit north of 8 Mile Road until 2 a.m., and a winter weather advisory is in effect for Sanilac County until 5 a.m.

Temperatures are teetering around the freezing mark Monday evening, which has led to freezing rain and patches of sleet and snow, mainly in the advisory area. Watch for slippery sidewalks and untreated roads.

Accumulating ice will be around, but most of it will be on mailboxes and deck railings, with only minor issues on the roads.

Temperatures will be at one of their coldest points of the forecast Monday evening. We'll go from near the freezing mark to the mid-30s by daybreak Tuesday morning.

We'll see plenty of rain on Tuesday, and even some rumbles of thunder. Most of the rain will be done by lunchtime, with just some lingering sprinkles in the early afternoon. Highs will hit the mid-40s.

Beyond that, we’re unseasonably mild and dry until the weekend rolls around. Temperatures won’t change much, but rain will be around for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
