Let's get started with Thursday evening. Cloudy skies will be overhead, and that blanket will keep temperatures in the 30s overnight. Neighborhoods south of 8 Mile will stay above freezing, but communities north of 8 Mile will be reach 32 degrees F or lower by dawn Friday.

That is significant because showers arrive after midnight. Rain crosses the Ohio border in to Lenawee and Monroe counties by 3 a.m. ET. Most areas will be wet, but some ramps, bridges and overpasses, especially north of 8 Mile, will be icy with freezing rain and sleet between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. ET.

Fog will reduce visibility to 2 miles or less in many neighborhoods for Friday morning's rush-hour, too. Any overnight drivers, people would late night plans, or early early risers will need to use caution while driving. Remember to use low beams and always be mindful of pedestrians.

Periods of rain continue Friday morning and early afternoon. Umbrellas will be needed early, but after 1 p.m., it becomes drier as temps rise to the low 40s by late afternoon and evening; above normal highs for mid January by 10 degrees or more.

Families coming downtown for Winter Blast will be greeted with dry conditions. Although air temps will be above freezing, the ice rink at Campus Martius will remain solid for ice skating. This weekend will feel like spring with highs in the low and middle 50s on Saturday.

Afternoon temps will be near 50 degrees Sunday.

Rain returns Monday with highs in the 40s.
