Metro Detroit weather: Summer-like conditions

How long will this last?

DETROIT – I hope you stepped outside Monday because if you did, you got a nice reminder of what August feels like. What a day!

Strong south winds have pushed very warm air into the area, and it’ll stick around for one more day before we go back to reality. As somebody once told me, "You've got to take advantage of this and get those Christmas lights up." No, no, no. Don’t do it. It’s way too early. I’m OK with a pumpkin on the porch, but not with Christmas lights in October, not even in the stores. Especially not in the stores. Not yet.

Monday night will feature clearing skies for many, but partly cloudy skies for some. It’s going to be a very mild night, with lows only dropping into the upper 60s, or 20 degrees Celsius for our Canadian friends.

Just in case you're wondering, our average high right now is 61 degrees (16 degrees Celsius). Winds will stay up Monday night, blowing from the south at 10-20 mph.

It will be partly cloudy for the first half of the day on Tuesday, then we should see more afternoon cloud cover as the front edge of some colder air (a cold front) works its way into the area. A few of us may see a brief shower. Highs should approach 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius). Strong southwest winds will blow at 15-25 mph will shift to the west after the front comes through and, once that happens, temps will fall rather quickly. In fact, Tuesday’s actual low temperature will occur just before midnight Tuesday evening.

Tuesday’s sunrise is at 7:50 a.m., and Tuesday’s sunset is at 6:46 p.m. It will be partly cloudy Tuesday night, with lows in the mid-50s (12 degrees Celsius).

Wednesday will be partly cloudy, with highs in the upper 60s (20 degrees Celsius). It will be partly cloudy Wednesday night, with lows in the low 50s (11 degrees Celsius).

It will be mostly cloudy on Thursday with a chance of rain. Highs will be near 60 degrees (15 degrees Celsius). Shower chances continue Thursday night, albeit in a diminishing phase, with lows in the low 40s (6 degrees Celsius).

Friday will be mostly cloudy, with highs in the mid-50s (12-13 degrees Celsius). It will be mostly cloudy Friday night, with lows in the upper 30s (3-4 degrees Celsius).

It will be mostly cloudy on Saturday, with highs in the mid-50s (12-13 degrees Celsius).

Sunday will be partly cloudy, with highs in the upper 50s (15 degrees Celsius).

Looking ahead to Halloween

You already know that Halloween is a big deal to me, and it’s two weeks from Monday. You also know that I do not make specific forecasts two weeks in advance. However, just for kicks, I took a look at the longest-range computer models this afternoon, and they all agreed on a big area of high pressure dominating the eastern third of the nation on Halloween.

It's interesting, and if this pans out, we’d have a dry Halloween, with seasonably cool evening temperatures. Obviously, this could change.

I’ll keep a close eye on the Halloween forecast, and keep you updated over the next couple of weeks. Boo!
