Metro Detroit weather: Summer-like temps return later this week

Temperatures drop to mid-50s Tuesday night

DETROIT – We’ll start to feel summer again before the weekend, but not Tuesday night.

After pesky showers (mainly in our North Zone) exit Tuesday evening, skies will clear out. Temperatures will drop to the low and mid-50s by dawn.

Temperatures will warm up a bit on Wednesday. With the help of mostly sunny skies, highs will get close to 80 in the afternoon. After the sun goes down, we might get a shower in our North Zone, but the majority of us will stay dry.

On Thursday, temperatures in the 80s will return, but they’re coming with thunderstorm chances. Expect them to arrive in the afternoon with better chances in our South and Metro Zones. Any storms that pop up could become strong. Highs will reach the mid-80s.

On Friday, a frontal boundary will around our South Zone. That will act as the focus for thunderstorms again, some of which could start in the morning. Highs will be in the low 80s.

On Saturday, after a few showers exit, we’ll dry out for the remainder of the weekend. Temperatures will be right at normal levels for the first week in July -- low 80s to finish, with morning lows in the low to mid-60s.

Beyond that, it looks a lot more like summer as we approach Independence Day next week.
