DETROIT – First of all, thanks for the well-wishes while I was out with what turned out to be a severe case of bronchitis. It’s no fun to be sick (I don’t get sick very often) and great to be back at work. Ironically, I have two previously scheduled vacation days Thursday and Friday, so this ends up being my only weather article of the week.
The big change I started telling you about a week and a half ago is coming in exactly on schedule with Wednesday night's winter weather system crossing the state.

Drizzle and scattered rain showers will break out ahead of it, followed by some wet snow toward morning. Temperatures should remain above freezing most of the night, perhaps just touching freezing late at night for our North Zone and the northern part of our West Zone. Keep an eye out for icy spots early Thursday morning, just in case any moisture on the pavement freezes.
As for snow accumulation, I certainly don’t expect much. South of M-59, I don’t think we’ll see much. North of there, perhaps some spots might pick up a few tenths of an inch. The amount of snow that sticks is highly dependent on if and when the temperature reaches freezing. It’ll be a breezy night as well, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph.
Light snow and snow showers Thursday morning should gradually dwindle as the afternoon progresses. Highs will be in the mid- to upper 30s (2 to 3 degrees Celsius). A west wind at 15 to 25 mph will certainly add some bite to the air. It’s finally going to feel like winter again.
