Winter Weather Advisory from 6pm-11pm Monday

3-5 inches of snow possible

DETROITA WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY will be in effect for Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.  Monday.

Light snow will develop and move from west to east from 4-8 a.m. Monday. Although light, the slippery, slushy mess will be hazardous for drivers and pedestrians trying to get to and from work or going to school. Up to 1-2 inches of snow will have fallen by lunchtime with more on the way.

Officials said Wayne County Roads will deploy trucks starting around 2 a.m. to begin salting and plowing as road conditions warrant. They will continue working until the roads are cleared.

Early Monday afternoon (12 noon to 4 p.m. ET) will have scattered light snow, even some dry spells, but after 4 p.m. heavier snow will develop. It remains around 15 degrees colder than average with highs only in the upper 20s.

The low pressure moving across The Midwest, affecting the Motor City area, links up with an East Coast low and turns into a huge noreaster. This rapid intensification will lead to heavier snow developing over Southeast Michigan after 4pm ET.

Monday evening and Monday night will have heavy snow. Thus, the ride home will be more treacherous with snow and slush. A total of 2 to 4 inches of snow will have fallen by midnight.

Tuesday morning will have an additional inch of snow and bring snow totals to 3 to 5 inches (some areas with 6 inches). Neighborhoods more likely to receive amounts closer to 5 or 6 inches are in the Metro Zone (Detroit and much of Wayne County and southern Oakland and southern Macomb Counties) because they are closer to the developing noreaster. Cities and towns farther west and north are more likely to receive 2 to 5 inches of snow. Tuesday's highs will be in the middle 20s.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and cold with highs in the upper 20s. Thursday will be mostly sunny and cold with highs in the low and mid 30s.

Friday and Saturday go back above freezing with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s. A new storm system brings rain and snow showers Saturday.
