Southfield Parks and Garden Club to sponsor annual walk

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Southfield Parks and Garden Club will sponsor the 7th annual Southfield Garden Walk on Sunday throughout the Mt. Vernon Civic Association subdivision.

Organizers said the walk will showcase many gardens in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood that is located east of Lahser Road between Eleven and Twelve Mile Roads.

The 2013 Southfield Garden Walk will begin at Stevenson Elementary School, located at 27777 Lahser Road, and takes place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The non-profit organization says it works to keep Southfield beautiful with members who assist with various curb appeal initiatives to beautify yards, neighborhoods, parks and other public spaces throughout the city.

The club said it also operates Emmanuel Community Farm, which grows and harvests fresh, organic produce for those in need.

All proceeds from the garden walk ticket sales will support the club's charitable outreach efforts.

Organizers said tickets for Sunday afternoon's event are $10 tickets per person and may be purchased in advance or on the day of the walk.

Participants may take the tour shuttle or drive to locations themselves.
