Black Friday wraps up as Small Business Saturday kicks off

As stores reopen Saturday, mom-and-pop shops hope for plenty of sales

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The stores that were still open Friday night remain packed on this year's Black Friday. Those that are closed are probably still cleaning up and restocking after what's been a wild and busy day.

Come Saturday, the hope is that the smaller mom-and-pop stores get just as much action on Small Business Saturday. The shopping deals are seemingly nonstop through Cyber Monday.

The first challenge of Black Friday was parking, but once shoppers found a spot, many said it was worth it.

After working all day at Somerset Mall, Brianne Keegan wanted to cash in at Partridge Creek.

With light snow falling and Christmas lights glistening, it's the type of ambiance that lures shoppers in. And the deals were plastered everywhere, from half-off a second bra at Victoria's Secret to 40 percent off at Eddie Bauer -- the chains have marketing down to a science.

The deals might be closer to home than you think. Shopping local could save you more money.

Glitz and Ears credits their lower overhead for cheaper prices and bigger savings. Small Business Saturday is a growing movement to get shoppers to buy local. When you consider the eye-catching glittery store that employs 15 local workers, where you spend does make a difference.

You have Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but Small Business Saturday is a chance to spread that holiday cheer in your community.
