DETROIT – Too many families across Michigan have fallen on hard times and are struggling just to take care of their beloved pets. But this holiday season, you can help the Michigan Humane Society keep more families together.
MHS is teaming up with Chowhound Charities to hold its second annual Holiday Pet Food Drive on Friday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 25 at the Roseville PetSmart.

"We know that pets are members of the family, and having to give up your pet is one of the most heartbreaking things you can do," said Nicole Senczyszyn, MHS Events Manager. "That's why MHS has so many programs to help struggling pet owners, from a free pet food bank to free behavior assistance and low-cost sterilizations and vaccinations. With the community's support of our free pet food bank, we can help more pets stay home with their loving families."
Representatives will be on-site to collect donations of unopened cans and bags of both cat and dog food. Food can also be purchased directly from PetSmart. All food will be donated to MHS' Keeping Families Together program, which includes a free pet food bank for struggling pet owners. All too often, animals are surrendered to animal welfare organizations because families are unable to afford the costs of caring for their pets. Through Keeping Families Together, MHS helps pet owners who have fallen on hard times to keep their four-legged family members at home, where they belong.
PetSmart is located at 20530 13 Mile Road in Roseville. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The store is also home to one of MHS' off-site adoption locations.
