Dog found in garbage can has a new home

'Edgar' spent months being rehabilitated

DETROIT – A 2-year-old Maltese mix named Edgar, who was found abused in a garbage can in a Detroit alley, has found a new home.

The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) said Edgar was found March 9 by a concerned citizen who heard the dog's whimpering coming from the can.

Edgar spent nearly two months being treated by the MHS for several medical ailments, including severe urine burns, which are indicators of long-term neglect, and an upper respiratory infection.

When he was healthy enough, he was placed up for adoption and found his new home on Wednesday.

"Something was just pulling at my heart saying, ‘you need to go get this dog,'" said Cindy Nelson-Pouget, Edgar's adopter. "The Michigan Humane Society has saved this little guy's life and is saving a ton of animals' lives."
