DETROIT – The Michigan Humane Society is hoping to find a home for a puppy that was rescued in Detroit after being shot with a BB gun.
MHS officials said they got a call Dec. 2 about a puppy who had possibly been hit by a car near Warren and East Outer Drive on Detroit's East side.

The MHS rescue driver noticed that the puppy had difficulty walking and had a small wound on his back. The 3-month-old shepherd mix, now named Forrest, was brought to the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care, where he was examined by a veterinarian. X-rays showed that the puppy had a BB lodged next to his spine, rendering one of his back legs useless.

MHS veterinarians determined that, in order for Forrest to have a good quality of life, he would need to have the leg amputated. The BB could not be removed because of its proximity to the spine, which posed potential hazards for surgery.
During his recovery, Forrest needed to be resuscitated after he stopped breathing. MHS veterinarians believe that he has lost most of his vision as a result.
After two months of specialized care and recovery, Forrest is now ready for adoption into a home that can accommodate his special needs.
