This Local 4 Big Event is a chance for parents and students to check out local schools and talk to education providers all in one spot.
The 2014 Michigan School Expo is held throughout Oakland Mall in Troy on Saturday, May 3, from Noon to 6 p.m. and includes representatives from local K-12 schools, as well as technical/trades schools.
New this year is a chance for metro Detroit teachers to audition for Jeopardy! A brief, ten-question pre-test will be given to teachers interested in becoming a contestant on the popular quiz show. Those with a passing score will be given an appointment to audition at the contestant search, usually held at an undisclosed location the following day. During the event, the first 500 guests will be eligible to take the pre-test. All guests taking the pre-test must be full-time K-12 teachers.
There will be fun for kids at Local 4’s information booth. The station will have a green screen set up so children can do a mock weather forecast, pretending they’re one of the Local 4Casters, and see themselves on a large HD video monitor.
Participants also will have a chance to meet Local 4 News personalities including Rhonda Walker, Evrod Cassimy, Brandon Roux and Ashlee Baracy of Local 4 News Today. In addition, they can meet one of Jeopardy!’s “Clue Crew” members.
Plus, kids and adults alike can take pictures with cardboard cutouts of the well-known celebrities they see on Local 4 like Jimmy Fallon and Ellen DeGeneres. Those pictures could then end up being posted on Local 4’s website, ClickOnDetroit.com, for all their friends and family to see.
The AAA of Michigan Teen Driving Safety program will have a special exhibit featuring interactive driving simulators.
This event is presented by WDIV-TV Local 4, Fraser Public Schools, Hazel Park Public Schools and Edible Arrangements.
