McCants is accused of being one of three men who tied up 67-year-old Brenda Wilson and held her at gunpoint as they ransacked her home. Smith said the men stole two shotguns, a compound bow, cash, jewelry, a television, and several Christmas presents before taking off in Wilson's Cadillac.

The car was found a short time later being driven by McCants in Detroit, and he was taken into custody.

McCants previously served time behind bars for a 1992 armed robbery.
