Clerk at Detroit gas station found shot

Shooting happened at Clark station at 7 Mile, Schoenherr

DETROIT – A young father was shot and killed Tuesday morning while on the job as a clerk at a Detroit gas station.

Police said a customer found Mohamed Zokari's body around 7 a.m. at the Clark station at 7 Mile Road and Schoenherr Street.

"At this time, it does not look like as if it was a robbery or someone just randomly seeking crime," said Detroit Police Deputy Chief Renee Hall. "There was nothing taken. It was strategically done."

Friends and family members of Zokari, who also went by "Moe," told Local 4 he had worked at the station for years and was a family man. He leaves behind a 1-year-old son and a wife, who is pregnant with their second child.

Darren, a regular customer, said he went to the station daily just to talk to Zokari. "He helped anybody he can. If you needed something, he would give it to you," he said.

Police said they will be looking at surveillance video to see if the gunman can be seen.
