Girl, 10, dies in I-75 crash; child not wearing seat belt, police say

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash

ROYAL OAK, MICH. – A 10-year-old girl has died of injuries she received in a two-vehicle crash on I-75 in Royal Oak, said Michigan state troopers who investigated the accident.

The collision happened at approximately 11 p.m. Friday on southbound I-75 near I-696.

Preliminary investigations revealed the driver of a 2010 Dodge Dakota was travelling southbound on I-75 when it struck a 2009 Pontiac G6 in the rear bumper.

The pickup overturned on its side and came to a rest on the right shoulder of the highway.

Police say the Pontiac went up an embankment and struck a bridge. The crash caused the 10-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Pontiac to be ejected from the car.

Emergency crews transported all of the passengers to a hospital where they were treated for serious injuries.
Authorities say the 10-year-old girl died the next day at 7 a.m., adding it appears she was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Pontiac is currently listed in serious condition.

Police say alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash but did not specify which driver may have been under the influence.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
