100-year-old woman found dead in her Warren home

Police say daughter discovered victim Tuesday in home on Villa Pointe Drive

WARREN, Mich. – A 100-year-old woman has been found dead in the basement of her Warren home.

Police said the victim, who has not yet been identified, was found Tuesday by her daughter who had gone to check on her. Her daughter reported to police that she had told her mother to stay out of the basement because it had flooded.

The victim lived in the 13700 block of Villa Pointe Drive.

"My stomach is sick," said the woman's neighbor, Anna Stella. "She was a great neighbor, a kind lady, always there when you needed her. Every Christmas I had a Christmas card from her and she called me for every holiday."

The death is the second being blamed on storms that dumped 5.2 inches of rain on Warren Monday. A woman suffered seizures and died after her vehicle became trapped in high water near Van Dyke and old 13 Mile Road.

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts declared a local state of emergency Tuesday afternoon and asked Gov. Rick Snyder for help from the state. Fouts says roughly 1,000 vehicles had been abandoned in floodwaters in the suburb where many roads were closed.
