BRANDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

Oakland County Sheriff's Department is investigating a home invasion in Brandon Township.

he person police say they are looking for not only entered a family’s home, but also slipped through a 12-year-old girl's bedroom window at 3 a.m. Saturday.

"I heard a noise and woke up," said the girl, whose identity we're protecting. "I saw a man standing at the end of my bed when he saw me awake his jaw dropped and he jumped back out the window."

The girl's mother allowed her daughter to share what happened with Local 4, with the hope that whoever broke into her daughter's window won't get the chance to do it again.

"You never know what this guy’s intentions are," said Amy, the girl's mother. "Was he there to steal something or hurt my daughter? You just don't know."

The incident happened in the Sashabaw Meadows Mobil Home Community. Amy tells us her daughter woke up her dad, who grabbed a metal baseball bat and tried to chase after the suspect, who police say is a teenage boy.

When sheriff's deputies arrived on scene, they had a K9 track the area. The K9 was able to establish a short trail before losing the scent. Evidence technicians also processed the scene.

While the suspect was out of the home quickly, neighbors say the suspect had a clever way of getting in.

"He moved a plastic play set under the window to help him get in," said Craig. "But the girl’s father made sure he packed all the stuff away in the shed.

The suspect is described as a while teenager wearing dark baggy pants and a dark shirt. The girl described him as having a buzz cut and wearing red and white Nike shoes.

"For me, I find myself people watching all of the time," said the girl's mom. "Anyone who matches that description I always wonder, is that who did it?"

The young girl was unharmed and nothing was stolen. But this is a neighborhood full of children, this invasion not only affected one family, but the entire community.

"I have three kids," said Craig. "We're all looking out. It's scary."
