16-year-old shot by passenger waiting for 'Hot-N-Ready' at Little Caesar's in Taylor

19-year-old passenger taken into custody

TAYLOR, Mich. – A 16-year-old girl was accidentally shot Saturday night by a passenger in the backseat of a vehicle as they waited for a “Hot-N-Ready” pizza at Little Caesar’s in Taylor.

The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. at the Little Caesar’s on Telegraph Road, between Goddard and Wick roads.

"That's horrible. Everyone should have their guns locked up," a man who lives in the area said. "It's a sad -- a 16-year-old girl like that. I have a daughter that age and it would kill me if that happened."

According to police, a 19-year-old Taylor man sitting in the backseat of the vehicle was playing with a gun when it fired. The victim was sitting in the front passenger seat and was struck in the hip.

"You gotta protect yourself, but kids shouldn't have guns," the man said. "It's terrible, you know -- these kids with guns. If they're not licensed, these thing happen."

The girl was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Police said the alleged shooter does not have a CPL. He was taken into custody without incident.

No other information was made available.
