Girl dies after being struck by vehicle on Robson Street

DETROIT – Courtney Shields, 23, and Leonard Crosby, 19, both of Detroit, have been charged in connection with the hit-and-run car crash on May 19 that fatally injured an 8-year-old girl.

The crash was at Robson Street and Eaton Avenue at 4:20 p.m. Kamari Smith had been hospitalized in critical condition since the incident. She died on Monday. Police said she was standing at an ice cream truck when she was struck by a vehicle.

Shields has been charged with reckless driving and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious injury or death.

Crosby has been charged with accessory after the fact.

Both defendants had a video arraignment on Sunday in 34th District Court in Romulus.
