2 charged in attack of Central High School teacher

DETROIT – Two Detroit men have been charged with felony assault and aggravated assault after a teacher was attacked Friday inside Central Collegiate Academy. The fight wasn't between students, but a substitute teacher and two men who don't work at the school

"Two guys got on me," said Lorenzo Morris, who was assaulted at the school "I'm bleeding and everything, and I'm supposed to be a school teacher."

The 51-year-old geometry teacher said he was attacked after angering a female teacher when he walked into her classroom by mistake.

"When I got there the kids were in organized chaos," Morris said.

Not realizing the female teacher was in the classroom, Morris scolded the students for their behavior.

"She went and complained to the principal," he said. "She was telling them that I was inappropriate."

Morris denied doing anything wrong but apologized to the teacher, thinking that wouldn't be the end of it. Twenty minutes later two men, identified as Cleveland Moore and Alonzo Griffin, showed up at his classroom door. One of them said, "You will never talk to my wife like this again."

Morris said he left the classroom and the fight broke out.

"We bounced across the hallway, into the doorway across the hall and onto the stairs," Morris said. "I got one guy I'm fighting with and one on my back."

Morris received a cut on his ear, bumps to his head and a twisted knee. He said one of the men was armed with a paint scraper. It took other teachers and school security to break up the fight.

It's unclear exactly how the men were able to get into the building. Some said Friday was the woman's last day and her husband and another man were allowed in to help her move her stuff out. Morris said he believes the men weren't authorized to be there.

Moore and Griffin will appear before a judge Monday morning at 36th District Court.
