2 killed, 5 hurt in wrong-way crash on I-69 in Port Huron Township

Wrong-way driver, passenger die in head-on crash, sheriff's office says

PORT HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two people were killed and five were hurt in a wrong-way driver crash Sunday night in Port Huron Township, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office said. 

Sheriff Tim Donnellon said 83-year-old Ira Crass, of Clarkston, was driving a Chevrolet Impala eastbound on the westbound side of business loop I-69, west of 32nd Street, when he crashed head on into a Chrysler Pacifica.

Crass and his 81-year-old wife, Fay, were killed. 

In the Pacifica was 46-year-old John Thayer, of Shelby Township, 46-year-old Donna Thayer, 73-year-old Sharon Thayer, 16-year-old Danielle Thayer and 11-year-old Evan Thayer, Donnellon said. They were taken to Lake Huron Medical Center. Their conditions were not immediately released. Sharon Thayer was later taken to a Detroit area hospital with critical injuries.
