2 killed in crash involving garbage truck in Oxford; 5-year-old injured in crash

OXFORD, Mich. – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that killed two people and injured a 5-year-old boy Monday night in Oxford.

The crash happened at about 8:29 p.m. on Ray Road near Oxford Road.

Authorities said a 50-year-old man, of Metamora Township, was driving a garbage truck on Ray Road when he had mechanical difficulties and stopped in the roadway. A 43-year-old man, of Oxford Township, was driving a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country Minivan crashed into the back of the garbage truck, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver and another 43-year-old individual in the minivan were killed in the crash. A 32-year-old woman, of Lapeer, was taken to the hospital, as was a 5-year-old boy.

The boy's father was driving the minivan.

The driver of the garbage truck had minor injuries.

Authorities said the driver of the minivan was not wearing a safety belt.
