Prosecutors say the two robbed the Citgo gas station on Hamilton Avenue in Highland Park in the early morning of Jan. 18.

Investigators say one of the robbers broke a juice bottle to lure 59-year-old clerk Hussan Hussein out from behind a safety enclosure.

Hussein was shot several times when he refused to open the safe.  He died from his wounds.

Conviction on the charges would lead to life in prison for Evans and Witherspoon.

They will be formally arraigned on the charges next week.
