2 accused of stealing purses at Wayne County grocery stores sought

Purse-snatchings happened in Dearborn Heights, Dearborn, Garden City

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – There's a pair of serial snatchers on the streets and police want to catch them before they strike again. Their latest victim is an elderly woman.

The deviant duo has hit four times -- in Dearborn Heights, Dearborn and in Garden City.

The most recent snatching happened at the Papaya Fruit Market in Dearborn Heights, which was packed at the time the incident occurred.

While shoppers were prodding the produce the two thieves were seen perusing for a victim. They spotted a woman who turned away from her shopping cart for a quick second to grab a bag. That's when the man swooped in and stole her purse.

"In a public place. Yeah, it is pretty bold," said shopper Dawn Hebert.

"It's horrible. I see people leave their baskets," said shopper Reneh Pato.

The couple took off outside with the purse where a getaway car was waiting. The car appeared to be a green Taurus or a Sable.

"It just seems like they feel like they're invincible," said shopper Anjilla Hebert.

Police said the deviant duo has hit three other stores, including an Aldi and a Save-A-Lot in Dearborn Heights, and then they went over to Garden City and found another victim at an Aldi on Ford Road.

"They better watch out because, you know, they get caught they should be punished for it," said Pato.

But until they're caught, women are staying glued to their purses.
