2 strangers save Detroit woman from burning home

Friends driving down street get out to help save woman

DETROIT – A Detroit woman has two complete strangers to thank after being rescued after a fire broke out on the city's west side.

Two friends just happened to be driving down the street around 10:30 a.m. Saturday when they saw the smoke coming from the home and pulled over.

A walker was left where emergency responders found the elderly woman. A woman was lucky for the strangers who happened to be driving by as her home was burning.

"We were riding down the street and I noticed the smoke coming out of the window and I told (Justin Bradley) that doesn't look right," said Tracy Jones.

Jones and Bradley pulled over and saw a man standing outside the home looking for help.

"It was crazy. We had to stop, get in there and pull her out," said Bradley. "There wasn't time to think."

Both men rushed inside and up the stairs as the flames spread.

Jones and Bradley said they could barely see when they got upstairs because of the thick smoke.

The men called 911 and the woman was rushed to the hospital.

The woman was recovering in the hospital Saturday. It is not clear how the fire started.
