2-year-old boy bitten by pit bull in Detroit

Boy is expected to recover

DETROIT – A 2-year-old boy was hospitalized after being bitten by a dog in Detroit Sunday evening, according to police.

The incident occurred at a home on Plainview Avenue near Paul Avenue.

Mason Shefke, 2, was bit in the stomach by a dog when he wandered into his neighbor's backyard.

The owner was taking the dog to his car when the it lunged at the boy.

A family member ran over and kicked the dog in the head, forcing the dog to release the boy.

Detroit police rushed the boy to a children's hospital in their squad car.

Police had been investigating an ongoing fight between the child's family and the dog's owner.

The family's tires were slashed after the pit bull had attacked their puppy.

The dog owner's car windows were smashed in following the attack on the boy.

The boy is in stable condition and is expected to recover.

The dog has been placed in quarantine.

It is unclear if the owner will be charged.
