Police say shooting stems from a "love triangle" situation

WARREN, Mich. – Police said three people were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman sitting in her vehicle in Warren.

Eric Gibson, 24, of Detroit, Marcie Griffin, 46, of Eastpointe, and George Rider, 58, of Huntington Woods, were charged with first-degree murder. Gibson also faces charges of receiving and concealing a firearm and firearms violations.

Julii Johnson, 34, of Oak Park, died soon after her boyfriend found her outside his condo near 13 Mile and Mound roads on Jan. 13.

Police said it appears to be some type of "love triangle" situation. Rider and Griffin were arraigned Thursday and denied bond. Gibson is being held in the Wayne County Jail for unrelated charges.

Johnson was shot in her white 2016 Ford Fusion outside the Stoneridge at Heritage Village condominiums. She was rushed to St. John Oakland Hospital, where she died.

She was shot multiple times in her torso and a single gunshot wound to her forehead.

Her boyfriend found her bleeding on the front lawn. He told detectives he saw someone wearing a hooded sweatshirt running away.

Detectives recovered video surveillance from a nearby business and a vehicle, later identified as a Nissan Pathfinder, park in the area. A person was seen exiting the passenger side of the vehicle and walked north towards the scene of the shooting. The same person was seen returning a brief time later.

K-9 units found work gloves on the path from the business to the shooting scene and sent for DNA analysis.

A handgun was found Jan. 16 on the same path in heavy brush.

Police said Rider is dating Griffin, who is the ex-girlfriend of Johnson's current boyfriend. Griffin had expressed hatred towards Johnson and is believed to have enlisted Rider and Gibson in the homicide, according to police.

DNA taken from Gibson was a match to the gloves found on the path, police said.

Johnson leaves behind a 17-year-old daughter.
