DETROIT - A 3-day-old baby boy was injured Wednesday when a house was shot up on Detroit's east side, police said.
The incident happened in the 16100 block of Maddelein Street near the corner of Kelly and Moross roads.
Police said the infant was inside a home on Maddelein Street when someone pulled up in a car and fired shots into the house. The boy's 24-year-old mother was holding him on the couch in their living room when the shots came through the door, police said.
The boy was grazed in the head by a bullet, police said. Detroit police said they took the child to St. John Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the 24-year-old mother was shot in the leg. She was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Neighbors said they heard several gunshots.
"It's a shame that you've got to shoot a baby... that you've got to do drive-bys," the neighbor said. "If you've got beef with somebody, why not settle it by talking to them? It's not all about killing or a gun. That's what's wrong with the world today? If you want to go to war, go overseas and go to war."
Police said they don't have any information about a getaway car.
