DETROIT – A 3-year-old boy who was struck by a car Saturday afternoon in the 18000 block of Prevost Street is in stable condition.
A neighbor's surveillance system captured the moment the child was struck.
Officials said Dallen Cochran's family crossed the street to look in the back of a meat produce truck, but when his uncle walked back across the street, Dallen ran toward him.
Officials said that's when a person in a Chevrolet Malibu drove down Prevost Street at a high rate of speed, struck Dallen, paused for a moment and then left the scene heading north before turning west onto Curtis Street.
"We were right here on the curb. As he crossed the street, the guy come out here flying," the boy's uncle, Gerald Jackson, said. "(He) didn't even stop. He hit him and kept going."
Family and neighbors rushed to help the boy, who was left lying in the street in pain.
"I ran to him and I saw him," Jackson said. "He said, 'I'm hurt. My arm and leg hurt.' I was just in shock. Like, oh my God, my nephew. I just started screaming."
Dallen was rushed to Children's Hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
Officials are now searching for the driver of the car that struck the boy.
