30-year-old Troy man killed in I-75 crash near Crooks Road

TROY, Mich.

A 30-year-old Troy man died early Sunday morning after being thrown from a Cadillac CTS on I-75 near Crooks Road.

Joshua Watkins lost control of a black 2013 CTS at around 3:46 a.m. on Nov. 20, struck the median guardrail, traveled across the freeway and hit the guardrail on the shoulder side of the freeway, according to Troy police. The CTS flipped and threw Watkins. A passenger, 21-year-old Skylar Darbins, of Pontiac, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was able to exit the overturned vehicle.

Alcohol and speed appeared to contribute to the crash, according to police. Watkins was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

The accident closed I-75 near Crooks Road for 4 1/2 hours.
