4 bed bugs found in Romeo Middle School classrooms

ROMEO, Mich. – Romeo Community Schools announced Monday that four bed bugs were recently found in classrooms at Romeo Middle School.

The school sent out a letter to parents to notify them of the discovery and help inform them about the potential causes and symptoms.

"Bed bugs are a nuisance, but their bites are not known to spread disease," the letter says. "Bed bugs are usually active at night and feed on human blood. The bite does not hurt at first, but it may become swollen and itch, much like a mosquito bite. Watch for clusters of bites, usually in a line, on exposed areas of the body."

The letter says that although it's unlikely that bed bugs would infest a school, pest management has been contacted about the issue.

Anyone with questions is recommended to contact the school principal by phone or email.
