4-year-old girl served alcohol at Detroit restaurant

Drinks mix up at Armando's restaurant in southwest Detroit

DETROIT – A Southfield mother realized Sunday night at a Detroit restaurant that her 4-year-old daughter's drink had alcohol in it.

She said her daughter started acting funny and later had to go to the hospital.

Two drinks that look exactly the same, ordered by two different tables, got mixed up. One of the drinks had alcohol in it and the other didn't. The one with alcohol went to the little girl and the result was caught on video.

The incident happened when Teria Smith and her family went out to eat at Armando's on the city's southwest side. The girl ordered a non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri.

A urine sample at the hospital showed no alcohol in the girl's system a few hours later.

"Although it was an isolated incident, Armando's will take immediate action to ensure our staff receives retraining in alcohol service through the servsafe alcohol program," the restaurant's general manager said in a statement.

She said the restaurant offered to call 911, but Smith refused. Smith filed a police report over the incident on Monday night.
