5 teens arrested for vandalizing more than 40 cars in metro Detroit

FERNDALE, Mich. – Ferndale police say five teenagers were arrested Sunday for allegedly shooting out windows of cars with BB guns and spraying cars with spray paint. It is estimated that more than 40 cars were attacked in Royal Oak, Madison Heights, Ferndale and Hazel Park.

Police responded to a report of a car being shot with a BB gun in the area of Orchard Avenue and Pilgrim Avenue in Hazel Park. Officers found several cars with the windows shot out in the area.

Another caller reported seeing a burgundy Dodge Stratus shooting out more car windows on Brickley Street. Police found the Stratus one block away and arrested the five suspects inside. Five BB guns and a can of spray paint were found in the car.

Three 18-year-olds and two 17-year-olds were arrested. They are expected to be arraigned on Tuesday, police say.

Ferndale residents with cars that were damaged in the incident are asked to call police at 248-541-3650. Residents of other cities should contact their local police department.
