6 people rescued from boat fire by Coast Guard

Coast Guard responds to 2 different fires in St. Clair Shores

ST.CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – The United States Coast Guard rescued 6 people and assisted 3 others during two separate boat fires Friday night in Lake St. Clair. The fires happened 3 hours apart.

According to the Coast Guard, just before 8p.m. Friday, a boat crew from the St. Clair Shores station removed 3 people from a boat near the Jefferson Beach Marina in St. Clair Shores.

When they arrived the engine fire had been extinguished. The crew towed the vessel back to the marina. There were no injuries.

The second fire happened just before 11 p.m. near Miller Marina right outside the St. Clair Shores station.

According to the Coast Guard, they put out the fire and safely removed 6 people from the boat.

The cause of the fire is still being determined.
