Apartment fire called suspicious

Couple heard arguing before fire started

Clinton Township – Investigators believe an apartment fire in Clinton Township early Saturday morning may have been arson. It happened just before 6 a.m. at the Rivercrest Arms Apartment Complex on Denton Road.
Dawn Sutton says she heard her neighbors arguing in a downstairs apartment. Police responded. The fire started moments after the officers left. According to Sutton, "I heard someone yell get out it's a fire. I opened my apartment door and there was loads of black smoke."
Several people were trapped on the upper floor of the smoke-filled building. One woman who recently underwent surgery was forced to jump. A police dog trained to detect accelerants found evidence that the fire was set intentionally. Investigators will wait for lab tests to make an official ruling.
