Children grazed by bullets during drive-by shooting in Detroit

Woman says 7-year-old, 12-year-old grandsons were grazed by bullets during drive-by shooting at home on Manning Street in Detroit

DETROIT – A Detroit woman is too afraid to show her face after her home in the 14000 block of Manning Street on Detroit's east side was riddled with bullets during a drive-by shooting.

The woman, who does not want her name to be used in this story, says her three grandchildren were in the living room on Sunday when a round of bullets came through the walls of the home. Bullets grazed her 7-year-old and 12-year-old grandsons.

"We didn't pay attention to the first shot, and then they just continued. They never did stop," she said. "We just laid down on the floor until after the shots were over. I mean, debris was everywhere."

She said the kids started running and crawling on the floor as they tried to dodge the bullets.

"Everybody just fell to the floor," she said.

She says she believes the drive-by shooting was in retaliation after her daughter got into a fight with someone in the neighborhood on Saturday night. She said they are lucky no one was killed.

"Whoever is responsible for these things ... I want them brought to justice," she said.

Detroit police said there are no suspects and no arrests have been made.
