Detroit girl recovering as search continues for person who shot her

Amyria Parham suffers buckshot wound from shotgun

DETROIT – A 3-year-old Detroit girl continues to be treated for injuries she suffered after taking a buckshot blast.

Local 4 is learning more about how the little girl was shot and what led up to the shooting.

Latina Edwards, 23, told police she was arguing Tuesday evening with a man nick-named "Vern" in her east side neighborhood on Cardoni near State Fair.

Edwards says she retreated to a home and the man began kicking in the front door along with the man's two sisters.

Edwards grabbed her daughter, Amyria Parham, and got into a van in a desperate effort to get away from the man and his sisters.

As the van was being driven off, someone fired a shotgun at the van. The shot struck the little girl in her arm, side and legs.

Parham is recovering in the hospital this morning and is expected to be OK.

Meantime, police continue to look for "Vern," whose actual name may be "Ray."

Police believe he may be the one that fired the shotgun.

Police entered a home near the shooting scene and recovered a shotgun and sources say investigators also found a bullet proof vest.
