Detroit mayor plans to bring 6 issues to City Council next week

Mayor Dave Bing holds news conference to discuss financial issues he wants to bring to address

DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Dave Bing talked Friday afternoon about several issues he wants to push forward in the city, and admitted that it will take everyone in the administration to get it done.

Bing addressed six issues during the news conference including an audit of employee medical benefit dependents, approval of the Plante Moran amendment to implement change in property tax and the assessor's office, approval of the workers compensation fraud audit, approval of the Miller Canfield contract, a resolution to increase procurement approval thresholds for City Council so decisions can be made faster, and addressing the city's cost structure in the short run, which means looking at staff levels and considering furloughs.

"I'm confident that our administration can move forward and deliver on these milestones, but it's about all of us working together," Bing said. "I have one agenda and that is to do what's right for the citizens of Detroit."

The mayor plans to take those issues he talked about to City Council on Tuesday for approval.
