Driver shot along I-96 near Fowlerville Road still in hospital

Driver shot in buttocks while heading to Detroit for World Series game

FOWLERVILLE, Mich. – A motorist driving along Interstate 96 was shot and wounded Saturday in the latest in a string of shootings in southeastern Michigan, authorities said.

Surveillance video shows the victim hobbling into a Mobile gas station in Fowlerville asking for help after being shot.

Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte said the 46-year-old Delton man was taken to the hospital for a gun shot wound in the left buttock area by a bullet that came through the driver's-side door. He was listed in stable condition at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital of Livingston.

Bezotte said the Delton man is a Tigers fan who was on his way to Detroit for the World Series game.

Bezotte said shots were fired earlier into another car, but the two people inside -- an 18-year-old man from Canton and a 18-year-old woman from Plymouth -- weren't hurt.

A specially formed task force with dozens of investigators has been working to solve 22 reported shootings along the interstate, or near it, in Ingham County, Oakland County, Livingston County and Shiawassee County.

Ten of the incidents happened in Wixom alone.

The first occurred Oct. 16 and the last was reported Thursday. No one was hurt in any of the previous shootings.

Authorities ask anyone with possible information on the shootings to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
