Wayne County’s former deputy chief information officer has been charged with taking a bribe.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Local 4, David Edwards is accused of accepting $13,000 in cash from a private contractor.
The complaint said Edwards intended to be “rewarded in connection with his official duties regarding a business, transaction, or series of transactions of Wayne County.”
Edwards is the fifth former member of the Ficano administration to face federal corruption charges.
Federal authorities began investigating county government after news broke that a senior official was getting a $200,000 severance to become airport chief. That deal eventually was dropped
He was arraigned Friday. Sources say Edwards is planning on pleading guilty in order to cooperate with the ongoing FBI investigation.
