Funeral held for 9-month-old Detroit boy

Delric Miller killed by gunfire in house on Detroit's west side

DETROIT – A 9-month-old Detroit boy was laid to rest Monday, a week after he was killed by gunfire that erupted into a home on the city's west side.

Delric Miller III was sleeping on the couch of a home in the 8400 block of Greenview when someone opened fire. He was struck and killed by one of the nearly 40 bullets that went into the home.

Miller's casket was surround with toys at his funeral, which was held at Pye Funeral home on Plymouth Road in Detroit.

Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee has said the shooting could be gang-related. He spoke at the funeral and said he indicated that he thought someone who knew something about the shooting was in the audience.

"I promise you this, we will find out who did it," he said.

Raphael Johnson founded the community activist group Detroit 300. He and other volunteers are working with police to solve the killing.

"If you know who did this, I'm going to appeal to you like this: If you don't turn them in, there is no such thing as "I ain't snitching.' Babies die," he said.

There is a $5,000 reward being offered in the case. Anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAKUP.
