Husband arrested in murder of Iraqi woman

Victim had ties to Dearborn

The murder in California of an Iraqi woman who formerly lived in Dearborn was originally thought to have been a hate crime.  But now with the arrest of her husband, police say it appears to have been a case of domestic violence.

Shaima Alawadi was found beaten to death in her family's El Cajon, California home last March.  A note found next to the 32-year-old woman's body read "Go back to your country, you terrorist."

On Friday, police in El Cajon arrested Alawadi's husband, 48-year-old Kassim Al-Himidi.

The couple, with their five children, moved to California months before the killing.

At the time of the killing, police said robbery did not appear to be a motive.  Nothing was taken from the house.

Police in El Cajon say there are no other suspects at this time.

Kassim Al-Himidi is expected to be arraigned next Tuesday.
