DETROIT – Former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's defense team is asking the federal court to release him from prison on bond until his sentencing.

Kilpatrick, along with co-defendant Bobby Ferguson, were denied bond last week after a jury found them guilty on several corruption charges, including racketeering.

Both are in prison awaiting their sentencing, which could bring up to 20 years in prison.
