Lyon Township supervisor hunts down thief, holds him at gunpoint until police arrive

Oakland County township supervisor is licensed to own, carry guns, but doubts he will do this again

LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Lyon Township Supervisor Lannie Young had been hearing from residents they've had break-ins they weren't used to.

When they saw a guy break into a nearby abandoned home to strip the pipes, they called him, not the cops.

"I told my wife I got to go. She said, where are you going? and I said I'll explain when I get back," Young said.

He drove out to the house and called the experts, the Oakland County Sheriff's deputies who patrol his township.

However, Young found the thief who knew what he was doing. He was wearing waders and knee-deep in water in the basement and probably had someone drop him off.

No description found

Just as officers arrived, the thief led them into the woods.

Young drove around to the other side and found him crouched in thick brush.

"I could make out two eyes," the supervisor said. "And that's when the adrenalin started flowing. And right away my first reaction was to pull my gun."

He held the man at gunpoint until officers made the arrest.

Troy Laszlo, 23, is charged with home invasion and resisting arrest.

Young said he does not carry his gun to the office even through he is licensed to carry.

He was back in his element today, sitting behind a pile of paperwork.

"I never get involved, and I probably never will again," Young said about fighting crime.
