Algonac man charged with secretly photographing women in store

Steven Scott Lipa taped camera to shoe before entering Meijer in Lenox Township, sheriff's office says

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A 44-year-old Algonac man is accused of taping a camera to his shoe to secretly record women in a Lenox Township Meijer store, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives from the Macomb Area Computer Enforcement (MACE) unit started an investigation after a complainant came to the sheriff's office with a data-storage device that contained images of women, some of which were captured at the Meijer store at 36865 26 Mile Road.

After reviewing the videos, detectives were able to see images of the suspect as he put the camera on his shoe or lower leg before he entered the store. Detectives said Lipa stood near two different women and captured images and videos up their skirts.

The suspect was identified as Steven Scott Lipa. He was arrested Friday on two counts of surveillance of an unclothed person.

He posted bond and was released. His next court hearing is Nov. 9.
