Dozens lose home after fire destroys apartment building in Detroit

DETROIT – Dozens of people have been forced out of their homes after an apartment building in Detroit was destroyed by fire.

The fire at 11210 East Canfield started late Monday night. It was still burning Tuesday morning.

All of the residents were able to get out safely, but the 30-unit building was a complete loss.

LaToya Flemming grabbed her 6-year-old daughter and left everything behind to escape.

"She was screaming and crying about all her stuff, but like I told her, that's material. God will renew all of that. We will get all of that back. All I care about is all of us being OK and all the tenants being OK. That's it," Flemming said.

One firefighter hurt his back battling the fire. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
