2 arrested after string of 7-Eleven robberies in Madison Heights, Ferndale, Oak Park

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – Madison Heights police arrested two people Tuesday after a string of armed robberies at 7-Eleven stores in southeastern Oakland County.

According to police, at about 5:07 p.m. a man entered the 7-Eleven at 815 West 11 Mile Road, produced a handgun and told the clerk to give him money. When given the money, he left in a gold Ford Taurus.

While officers were responding to the scene, they were informed that stores in Ferndale and Oak Park were also robbed by a person matching the description of the man at the 11 Mile Road location. Officers notified other 7-Eleven stores about the incident and gave a description of the person.

Around 5:24 p.m., while the first robbery was still being investigated, a robbery at the 7-Eleven at 31752 John R Road was reported, police said. According to police, the description of the man was the same as the 11 Mile Road store. The man pulled out a handgun, asked for money and left the store on foot with the money.

A car that matched the description of the car from the first robbery was spotted at an apartment east of the John R 7-Eleven, police said. A man matching the description of the person from the robberies was seen at the door of an apartment building in the 300 block of East Whitcomb, police said.

Police detained and arrested an Oak Park man, as well as a second person present at the time of the arrest. Police said the second man is being investigated regarding his participation in the robberies.

Police said the first man was identified by both 7-Eleven clerks as the man involved in the robberies. The gun from the robberies and cash were recovered at the apartment, according to police.
