Arrest made in connection with shooting that injured Detroit girl

India Williams hit in chest Sunday while riding bike

DETROIT – Detroit police say there has been one arrest in connection with a shooting that critically injured a 7-year-old girl as she played outside.

Sgt. Michael Woody confirmed the suspect is a 22-year-old man, but said more details would be released later. He said police are still looking for one more person.

India Williams was riding her bike Sunday near her home when she was caught in the crossfire of gunshots between two vehicles that were speeding down the street. She was hit in the chest and remains hospitalized at Children's Hospital.

At the time of the shooting, Police Chief James Craig said investigators were looking for a white Chevy Impala and a dark colored SUV that were involved in the shooting.

Williams' shooting comes just months after another child, 8-year-old Jakari Pearson, was shot. Pearson was killed in July by a bullet that penetrated his bedroom wall at a Detroit public housing project.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Detroit police's 11th Precinct at 313-596-1140 or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.
