Assistance available for residents who experienced basement flooding

Licensed contractors will sanitize basements affected by the flooding

DETROIT – All homes affected by the July 8 rainstorm, which flooded many basements are eligible for free sanitization services by the city.

Affected homeowners are encouraged to call 211 to place an order for assistance. 

Residents are also encouraged to keep sanitization receipts and file a damage claim with the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. 

"Our first concern is for the health of reisdents whose basements were flooded asa result of this storm," said Mayor Mike Duggan

"We have several city departments and other partners coordinating to make sure we bring assistance as quickly as possible to those who need it,"

A claim form may be downloaded from the city website at www.detroitmi.gov/dwsd

Residents have 45 days from when the sewage backup began to file a claim.
