Auburn Hills police officer hit by car during traffic stop

22-year-old Pontiac woman in custody

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – A 22-year-old woman who is accused of backing into an Auburn Hills police officer while trying to resist arrest early Friday morning is in custody.

The department said the officer, whose name is not yet being released, was trying to arrest the suspect for having a suspended license during a traffic stop at 2 a.m. on Opdyke Road when the suspect broke free.

Lt. Jill McDonnell said the suspect then got into her vehicle and backed into the officer.

"He fell to the ground, he hit his patrol car, she hit his patrol car. It was a very violent act," McDonnell said.

The 37-year-old officer was treated for injuries, described by McDonnell as bumps, bruises and scratches, at McLaren Osteopathic Hospital -- and has already been released.

"We are very lucky this did not end any worse than it did today," McDonnell said.

Police had been looking for the suspect, who is from Pontiac, but announced her arrest at 11 a.m.
